GroundWork Vice President Finance & Accounting

Reporting directly to the CFO, this is a unique opportunity to join a fast-growing, innovative, and highly
entrepreneurial company. The Vice President (VP) Accounting & Finance will be a key member of the
senior leadership team working closely with the executive team, and functional and operating leaders, to
lead and oversee all financial and accounting activities. The VP Finance & Accounting will also work
closely with other key stakeholders, including clients, lending partners, the board of directors, and
GroundWork’s private equity investors.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

As the VP Finance & Accounting of GroundWork, the successful candidate will:

  • Direct the preparation of all financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, shareholder reports, and tax returns. .
  • Lead the preparation and communication of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, along with directing the preparation of annual audited financial statements.
  • Establish, implement, monitor, enhance, and enforce internal controls.
  • Lead the implementation of US GAAP accounting practices, policies, and procedures that guide fact-based financial decision-making and proper GAAP-based financial reporting. This includes reporting on and optimizing the financial operation of the company.
  • Manage FP&A activities, including sales, margin, and profit budgets/projections and the comparison to actual results.
  • Implement accounting, financial, and operational best practices.
  • Manage reporting and communications with GroundWork’s lending partner including covenant monitoring and compliance.
  • Manage staff, as needed, and support development of GroundWork’s Finance and Accounting function and evaluate overall organizational performance
  • Manage compliance with all requirements for federal, state, and local tax and regulatory filings and reporting, as well as financial reporting to third parties required by contractual obligations.
  • Oversee cash-related activities with focus on driving the most efficient use of working capital and debt throughout the business; assure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Proactively manage budgeting and cash flow risk. Work closely with CFO and other executives to coordinate planning and establish priorities for the planning process.
  • Study long-range economic trends and project their impact on future growth in sales and market share.
  • If applicable, assist in the planning and implementation of GroundWork’s internationalization strategy.

Education & Experience

  • BA / BS in math, finance, accounting, business administration, or other quantitative discipline is highly preferred.
  • Designation as Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant.
  • 10+ years of overall experience in finance and accounting.
  • Experience implementing ERP systems is valuable, although not mandatory.
  • Strong GAAP accounting skills including implementation of percentage of completion and accrual accounting.
  • Grounded in accounting, processes, and controls, and successful experience working closely with audit firms and their partners on both tax and audit issues; respected by auditors as a technically capable finance leader balanced with strong management skills.
  • Experience in working with a lending partner including quarterly reporting requirements.
  • Experience in working with private equity owners is not a requirement, but candidates that have worked with private equity in the past preferred.
  • Experience in business planning, including the development of monthly, quarterly, and annual budgets and comparison of such against forecast and actual results.
  • Superior skills in spreadsheet and other computer applications used in financial reporting and analysis, with emphasis in Excel/Google Sheets
  • Ability to learn new software programs very quickly, and capable to implement systems to standardize combining information from different sources to produce powerful financial reports and scenario analyses.

Project Manager

GroundWork seeks a project manager to join the company to manage projects in support of the installation and management of MET equipment for our clients.

Position Overview

The project manager is responsible for providing clients with timely service and high-quality data, as well as ensuring there is comprehensive documentation of all projects. Specifically, this includes the following responsibilities:

  • Continually assess projects in all stages; implement and assign appropriate next steps.
  • Open and maintain lines of communication between Project Management and other departments through use of web-based project management and Kanban software.
  • Set goals and expectations for and ensure quality in the workmanship of the shop and the field teams.
  • Communicate progress to clients through internal and external status reports and other client communications.
  • Research and manage daily issues regarding staff, processes, procedures, and client needs.
  • Generate and review pertinent records and deliverables.
  • Represent company at professional conferences to promote the company as needed.
  • Manage and execute professional service requests.
  • Work closely with upper management to evolve processes to fit changing business goals.

Position Purpose

The successful candidate will help lead the QA lifecycle, from developing test plans to executing tests, finding/resolving defects, and ensuring ongoing quality.

  • Experience and ability to create, maintain, and run a manual testing framework for multiple applications.
  • Proficient in developing and executing detailed, comprehensive test plans and test cases.
  • Demonstrates exceptional manual testing skills, focusing on comprehensive pathfinding beyond the happy path, adept at simulating user behavior to uncover complex, hard-to-find bugs.
  • Excels at finding unique and creative ways to break things.
  • Proactively digs deep into software changes, unafraid to query databases and explore alternative paths, ensuring functionality is robust across multiple platforms and user scenarios.
  • Has experience in overseeing and ensuring the quality of each software release, demonstrating accountability for the final product’s integrity and reliability.

Electrical Engineer - Operational

GroundWork seeks an experienced, detail-oriented, hands-on Electrical Engineer, preferably with solar industry experience, to play a key role in designing and implementing meteorological measurement systems (MET stations) for utility-scale, solar power plants.

Position Overview

  • The selected candidate will play a key role in the selection and system design of advanced meteorological equipment for placement in utility-scale solar powered operating plants.
  • Liaise with business development, project managers, engineers and other stakeholders to gather product and structural requirements and designs.
  • Evaluate client requirements and solution feasibility through technical meetings and documentation reviews (e.g., construction site drawings, proposed system design).
  • Given requirements and constraints, determine which GroundWork products, standard or custom, apply.
  • Support the creation of system design packages and corresponding bill-of-materials to meet functional, performance, safety, and cost requirements.
  • Prepare drawings using computer-aided design (CAD) software of standard or custom designs that require strong precision and drafting knowledge.
  • Review and design detailed electrical schematics for MET stations using CAD software.
  • Design diagrams, maps, and layouts to illustrate workflow using CAD software.
  • Prepare rough sketches and review them with engineering colleagues.
  • Support those responsible for building, testing, and deploying designed systems by providing hands-on guidance and by writing detailed and accurate support documentation.
  • Provide installation and post-installation troubleshooting support.
  • Ensure that the problems in manufacture, assembly, installation, and operation are resolved by the produced set of drawings.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electromechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of applied engineering experience with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software that involves more advanced design/drafting assignments and knowledge, including 2D and 3D modeling.
  • Independently exercise judgement based on knowledge of the design requirements.
  • Requires an analytical and mathematical mind, capable of evaluating and solving various complex problems and deriving engineering calculations.
  • Design and model backplate (panel) layouts, wiring schematics, single line diagrams and electrical connections to meet functional, performance and safety specifications.
  • Design for proper grounding and bonding of electrical equipment in an outdoor, industrial environment to safeguard human life and to prevent damage to equipment.
  • Experienced in component/hardware selection (e.g., section of solar sensors, Moxa switch, terminal blocks, diodes, fuses, cabling, conduit, enclosures, etc.).
  • Experienced in designing for low to high voltage products/systems.
  • Experienced in writing detailed and accurate support documentation (e.g., QC checklist, install guide, equipment commissioning guide).
  • Requires strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to go deep into engineering concepts, as well as the ability to explain technical concepts to non-engineers.
  • Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office and Google tools.

Major Pluses

  • Experience with solar or renewable energy production, meteorological measurement equipment (e.g., pyranometers, data loggers), and/or large-scale construction.
  • Expert user of Autodesk: AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD Mechanical, Inventor and Vault.
  • Application of communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3) for SCADA monitoring.
  • Experience with acquiring/maintaining industry product certifications (e.g., UL508A).
  • Additional certification from the American Design Drafting Association (ADDA).
