GroundWork seeks an experienced, detail-oriented, hands-on Electrical Engineer, preferably with solar industry experience, to play a key role in designing and implementing meteorological measurement systems (MET stations) for utility-scale, solar power plants.
Location
North Hollywood, CA / Remote
Position Overview
The selected candidate will play a key role in the selection and system design of advanced meteorological equipment for placement in utility-scale solar powered operating plants.
Liaise with business development, project managers, engineers and other stakeholders to gather product and structural requirements and designs.
Evaluate client requirements and solution feasibility through technical meetings and documentation reviews (e.g., construction site drawings, proposed system design).
Given requirements and constraints, determine which GroundWork products, standard or custom, apply.
Support the creation of system design packages and corresponding bill-of-materials to meet functional, performance, safety, and cost requirements.
Prepare drawings using computer-aided design (CAD) software of standard or custom designs that require strong precision and drafting knowledge.
Review and design detailed electrical schematics for MET stations using CAD software.
Design diagrams, maps, and layouts to illustrate workflow using CAD software.
Prepare rough sketches and review them with engineering colleagues.
Support those responsible for building, testing, and deploying designed systems by providing hands-on guidance and by writing detailed and accurate support documentation.
Provide installation and post-installation troubleshooting support.
Ensure that the problems in manufacture, assembly, installation, and operation are resolved by the produced set of drawings.
Skills/Qualifications
Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electromechanical Engineering.
5+ years of applied engineering experience with the ability to meet deadlines.
Extensive hands-on experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software that involves more advanced design/drafting assignments and knowledge, including 2D and 3D modeling.
Independently exercise judgement based on knowledge of the design requirements.
Requires an analytical and mathematical mind, capable of evaluating and solving various complex problems and deriving engineering calculations.
Design and model backplate (panel) layouts, wiring schematics, single line diagrams and electrical connections to meet functional, performance and safety specifications.
Design for proper grounding and bonding of electrical equipment in an outdoor, industrial environment to safeguard human life and to prevent damage to equipment.
Experienced in component/hardware selection (e.g., section of solar sensors, Moxa switch, terminal blocks, diodes, fuses, cabling, conduit, enclosures, etc.).
Experienced in designing for low to high voltage products/systems.
Experienced in writing detailed and accurate support documentation (e.g., QC checklist, install guide, equipment commissioning guide).
Requires strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to go deep into engineering concepts, as well as the ability to explain technical concepts to non-engineers.
Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office and Google tools.
Major Pluses
Experience with solar or renewable energy production, meteorological measurement equipment (e.g., pyranometers, data loggers), and/or large-scale construction.
