2024 Modeling Workshop Call for Abstracts

PVPMC Workshop

The PV Performance Modeling Workshop will take place May 7-9, 2024, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Co-organized by Sandia National Laboratories, GroundWork Renewables and CFV Labs, this three-day workshop will examine the technical challenges and opportunities related to PV module and systems performance modeling.

This year’s workshop will have a single track and will cover topics from solar resource assessment, module characterization, PV performance modeling, performance monitoring and fault detection. Logistical information and the registration link will be forthcoming.

The first two days will have oral and poster sessions devoted to technical topics and research updates.  The final day will focus on educational and technical community working groups.

Technical Presentation Proposals

We are soliciting technical presentation proposals from the community.  If you have modeling approaches, new data, or other interesting results to share please consider submitting a short abstract to present at the workshop.

The following is a list of possible sessions (Final sessions will depend on topics submitted):

  • Solar resource assessment
  • Module characterization methods
  • PV performance modeling
  • Performance monitoring and fault detection
  • Application of PV performance models to grid integration studies
  • Capacity testing / Commissioning of power plants
  • Diagnosis of under-performing power plants
  • PV tracking methods and modeling
  • Digitalization of PV systems and asset portfolios
  • Day 3: Software or specific tutorials, PV technical working group meetings. Submit your proposals.

Technical abstracts should include titleauthor listorganization name, and a brief technical description of the contribution. Note that all presentations (including from sponsors) must be technically focused (no sales pitches)

Technical Presentation Abstract Deadline is March 1, 2024

Sponsorship Opportunities

One big change this year is that we are offering opportunities to companies to help offset costs to participants by sponsoring at various tier levels. The PVPMC workshop has grown over time, and this means that we require larger venues with significantly higher hosting costs per participant. We believe that companies derive great value from these workshops in networking and advertising and will be willing to provide this needed support. Any questions regarding sponsorship opportunities please reach out to Cameron Hunter.

About PVPMC

Sandia National Laboratories is facilitating a collaborative group of photovoltaic (PV) professionals (PV Performance Modeling Collaborative or PVPMC). This group is interested in improving the accuracy and technical rigor of PV performance models and analyses. Such models are used to evaluate current performance (performance index) and determine the future value of PV generation projects (expressed as the predicted energy yield) and, by extension, influence how PV projects and technologies are perceived by the financial community in terms of investment risk. Greater confidence in the accuracy of performance models will lead to lower financing costs and an increase in the number of projects that are built. The PVPMC provides a collaborative venue for working towards these goals. Our goal is to assemble and organize the most complete, transparent, and accurate set of information about PV system performance modeling.
